Under a microscope, biochar resembles a vast honeycomb of tiny pores and tunnels. These microscopic spaces become homes for beneficial bacteria, fungi, and other soil organisms.

At the same time, they help retain water and nutrients that might otherwise be lost.

Why Biochar Lasts When Compost Doesn't
